Contemporary Paintings from the Pacific Northwest
Mira Kamada is a contemporary painter located in Bellingham, WA. Her current colorful oil and acrylic paintings explore abstract forms drawn from nature. Kamada’s fascination with painting started early. She studied traditional oil painting as a teenager. Growing up in New Jersey she frequented major art museums and galleries in Manhattan. A pivotal event in her artistic awakening was the landmark exhibition, “New York Painting and Sculpture: 1940-1970” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, featuring the work of the Abstract Expressionists.
After completing graduate studies in painting under June Kilgore at Marshall University, Kamada taught art in West Virginia for five years. Following a break to paint full time she moved to California where she worked as a production artist for a small publishing company, and later as a designer at a daily newspaper. In the 90s she opened a graphic design studio in Monterey. Balancing a busy design studio with painting proved challenging and rewarding. After a successful second career in design she relocated to the Pacific Northwest to paint full time.
Kamada’s work has been exhibited across the US and in British Columbia. Her paintings are represented in both private and public collections, and have appeared in feature films.
