The Iconic Tulip
As a novice I had the good fortune to study with a gifted artist who guided me enthusiastically through the immense collection of old masters at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Under his tutelage I acquired a passion for paintings from the 17th century. I've returned to those roots through my tulip series. I am proud to participate in this long-standing tradition. For me the artist's task is to illuminate some small or large truth that may otherwise be overlooked as we race through our lives at speeds unmatched in previous centuries. By employing scale I ask you to stop a moment and experience something so exquisite that in the 17th century a Dutchman paid a year's income to enjoy a two-week bloom.
